About Us
Program Overview
Fellowship Housing Corporation (FHC) is an independent, 501c3 non-profit organization that serves the needs of single moms and their children who are homeless or one small crisis away from homelessness. The mission of FHC is to transform the lives of these moms and their children by providing affordable housing and life skills mentoring to guide them from crisis to long-term stability. Since 1991, over 165 families have entered the FHC program with 92% of them going on to independent living.
FHC does not discriminate when selecting women for the program. We work with a diverse population which, at present, includes moms ranging in age from 21 to 45 from various economic, cultural, racial and religious backgrounds.
Out of more than 350 intake calls a year, FHC houses approximately thirty families a year.
FHC operates within three strategic areas:
Housing for homeless single moms and their children
FHC provides affordable housing to moms and their children at their greatest point of crisis. This home is a stable, safe place to live while they are guided towards independence.
Family Support
Once the family is safely housed, each mom must follow the FHC program requirements to develop the career, financial, emotional and parenting skills that will lead to confidence and self-sufficiency over the long haul.
Children’s Services
FHC seeks to meet the special educational, emotional and developmental needs of the children in our program as well. Services include assistance in securing necessary educational or medical resources, character development through mentoring, and development of effective social skills through individual and group activities.
What makes FHC different than other transitional housing social services?
A two-year commitment
It takes time to break the cycle of despair. Many of our women came from difficult circumstances, yet these single moms are driven to carve out a better life for themselves and their children. Two years is not much time to change life circumstances and behavior, but with motivated moms and strong mentors, FHC has proven it can be done.
Retail apartment living
Many transitional housing programs offer only shelters or group homes. Our moms live in retail grade apartments with working, middle-class families as their neighbors. This community environment helps create a sense of normalcy, affirming that our moms and their kids are OK.
Professional Program Staff
Our program staff members either have a Masters Degree in Social Work or college degrees in Human Services and have experience in counseling or mentoring positions. Skilled managers yield better equipped moms. They can identify needs faster, understand the obstacles to progress better and expedite solutions more quickly than less skilled managers. The result is lasting success in two years or less. In addition, key volunteers serve as mentors to support these moms and kids as they work through the program.
Success Statistics
